On behalf of the
Market House Craft Center, we welcome you to the 13th
Annual Strictly Functional Pottery National. The "SFPN"
continues to display the best in current functional
ceramics in the United States. Over $5000 of cash, merchandise
and purchase awards are donated by our
sponsors.
The juror this year
is John Glick, full
time studio potter in Farmington Hills, Michigan. He
received his MFA in 1962 from Cranbrook Academy, and
founded Plum Tree Pottery two years later. His work
is recognized world wide, and is found in countless
exhibitions, collections, and in over thirty books.
He loves the process of making pots!
This exhibition
was juried by slides, which are identified only with
an ID number. The juror is also given the title, size,
clay, and firing description of each entry. Instructions
given to the juror are: to keep in mind the "Strictly
Functional" title of the show, and select different
styles, techniques, materials, and firing ranges. With
this in mind, Glick selected 110 pieces (out of almost
1000) to be in the exhibition. The work in the slide
must be the same piece that arrives, or it will be removed
from the exhibit.
We are proud to
announce that the SFPN has a new web site with many
new features. Shortly after the opening weekend this
entire exhibit will be on line. Check it out at: www.strictlyfunctionalpotterynational.net
and let us know how you like it. This exhibit will remain
online all year for your enjoyment.
Special thanks to
Mayor Charles Smithgall and the City of Lancaster for
providing our beautiful exhibition space in the Southern
Market Center! Many dedicated volunteers make this exhibition
a reality. Thanks to them, our sponsors, John Glick,
our applicants, and to you, who have come to see and
appreciate the Strictly Functional Pottery National!
